Night Venues and Entertainment Events Project (NVEEP)

The Night Venues and Entertainment Events Project (NVEEP) is coordinated by the Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO) in partnership with the WA Police, Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor, the WA Nightclub Association, the Australian Hotels’ Association, and Curtin University’s National Drug Research Institute.

The 2012 NVEEP campaign theme; “Stimulants can mask how drunk you really are”, focuses on the dangers of mixing alcohol with stimulants.

Emerging evidence suggests that alcohol mixed with stimulants (e.g. caffeine, ecstasy, amphetamines) can be dangerous in terms of risky behaviour and health of the consumer.

The campaign aims to increase awareness that stimulants can mask the effect of alcohol and make the drinker feel less intoxicated. However, the person's blood alcohol concentration does not change. This puts the consumer at increased risk of risky behaviours, such as drink driving.
