What can be done about irresponsible alcohol advertising?
If you feel alcohol advertising is promoting excessive and irresponsible drinking or encouraging people to get drunk you can do something about it.
Make a complaint in writing to the Advertising Standards Board. You will need to include:
- Name of advertiser and/or product
- Description of the advertisement
- If possible a copy of the advertisement
- When and where you saw or heard it
- Reasons for your concerns
- Your name and postal address.

Community Alcohol Action Network (CAAN)
The Community Alcohol Action Network (CAAN) aims to reduce alcohol problems by tackling social and cultural forces that drive unsafe and risky drinking. Community Alcohol Action Network (CAAN) are involved in monitoring alcohol advertising and marketing and challenge advertisements that are excessive, aggressive and/or inappropriate.
Community Advisory Council (CAC)
The Community Advisory Council (CAC) advises and assists community groups regarding alcohol and drug issues. The Council can represent the interests of young people, families, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, people from rural and remote areas, drug users and service providers.
